Holiday Angels
Adelphi Students Become Holiday Angels for Needy Families (Garden City Patch)
Each holiday season members of the Adelphi University Circle K International club are put aside their own holiday wishes in order to provide necessities to needy families in Long Island through the local outreach program, Holiday Angels.
Circle K members gather food, clothing, metro cards, gifts items, monetary donations and any other specified donations for families assigned to the club by the Holiday Angels project.
During the 2009 holiday season Lauren Sacks (‘13), whose family started Holiday Angels in the fall of 2003, brought the project to the club’s attention. Originally the club was assigned one family and set a goal of raising $600. When students were able to raise $1,000, they took on a second family.
Each year Adelphi’s Circle K club hopes to support at least eight people through their efforts.
Anyone interested in helping with the efforts of Adelphi University Circle K International and Holiday Angels should contact Emma Reed at (661) 341-1848 or emmareed@mail.adelphi.edu.
Better World Books
The Adelphi Circle K is currently running a Better World Books donation drive that benefits the organization Invisible Children. All books that are collected will be sold, donated or recycled and the profits will benefit children who have been victims of violence.
Our mission is to help educate the children in Northern Uganda to prevent them from being stolen from their homes and forced to fight in wars. Research shows that children who are in school and being educated are much less likely to be kidnapped.
If anyone has any textbooks that they cannot sell back to the book store or have any sort of unwanted books, please donate them to the boxes located around campus in the Residence Halls, UC, and other locations from December 6th to December 21st. This is for a really great cause, so please tell everyone you know that if they have any unwanted books we would love to take them off their hands!
